News, October 2006 Internet Service Updates | Entertainment 2007 Recovered E-Mail in Special Folders in cpcug.org E-Mail Accounts [Mon., Oct. 9, 2006] The date of the backup file used for cpcug.org server restoration by our current host, PatriotNet/IceWEB, was September 4. The date when CPCUG left our previous host was September 13. Current e-mail began appearing in member e-mail accounts at our new host on Sepember 15/16. Those who had stored e-mail on the server, however, found a gap in recovered e-mail. Mail from September 4 and earlier appeared in accounts on September 15, but mail between September 4 and 13 did not appear. On September 13 member e-mail was downloaded from our previous host separately for backup purposes. After we signed on with PatriotNet/IceWEB, these September 13 member e-mail folders were uploaded to our new server. PatriotNet/IceWEB is in the process of restoring this e-mail to member e-mail accounts, and expects to finish the effort within a couple days. To avoid overwriting folders and mail already in member accounts, this "restored" e-mail will appear in member accounts in additional folders, prefixed with "SEPT13BACKUP-". E-mail currently in member accounts will not be touched or changed in any way. In other words, member e-mail folders existing on September 13, with all their content on that date (not just content from September 4 to 13), will be inserted in member accounts in additional folders with a naming convention as follows:
The quota for e-mail volume has been temporarily removed. A quota system will return. Details will follow. Save Money and Support CPCUG With Entertainment Books! Entertainment discount coupon books for 2007 are here. So it's time for CPCUG members and volunteers to help CPCUG raise much-needed funds by selling books to friends, neighbors, and colleagues—and buying books for themselves. These books offer hundreds of discount opportunities on dining (usually two-for-one deals, or buy one and get one free), travel (airline, hotel, and car rental), shopping, sporting events, theater, movies, dry cleaning, auto repair, and much more. These aren't the kind of "discount" that requires spending extra money, buying things you wouldn't have bought, to "save" money. These are real-life discounts available on routine everyday purchases. The books are great, I've saved hundreds of dollars each year for many years. As always, CPCUG earns a percentage of our book sale revenues—and the more we sell, the higher the percentage. Selling books isn't hard, they nearly sell themselves. We sell two local editions: DC/VA and DC/MD, both for $25 per copy. Orders for out-of-town books (covering most major cities in North America) can be placed online with CPCUG receiving the credit. The key to making sales is offering books early—which we can do because we're among the first groups in the area to have books. Don't wait until people have already bought books to try to sell them. Here's What To Do Buy books for yourself, your family, colleagues, and neighbors, and as gifts. Books will be available at many CPCUG meetings through December 31. Let me know by e-mail if you'd like to buy books so we can work out details. It's especially important to let me know that you'd like to help sell books so I can get them to you quickly. Encourage people you know in other cities to buy books through CPCUG. It's simple, it takes just a few online steps, and it earns money for CPCUG.
