Chesapeake FIRST Robotics Competition
The Chesapeake FIRST Robotics Competition is free and open to all. Children are encouraged to attend. Free parking and a shuttle are available from the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The only private cars allowed to park at the competition site are those bearing handicapped user certification. In addition, all adults must have a valid government-issued photo ID, such as a current driver's license.
The CPCUG Robotics SIG has been active in helping students from several local high schools (including Benjamin Banneker Academic, Roosevelt, McKinley Technical, and Ballou in Washington, DC) prepare and particpate in FIRST competitions. If you'd like to participate, there are many ways to help, from mentoring student programmers to staffing a table at an event. Contact: Janet Lathan.
[Mar. 7, 2006] FRC, VEX, and FLL programmers—Robotics SIG wants you!
Karel the Robot (in C and C++, and elementary Java versions) is being used successfully in high schools to introduce students to programming. Share your experiences using this robot at the next Robotics SIG meeting, Thurs., Mar. 9, 7-9 pm.
