CPCUG Internet Cafe, part 2 | Thank You | ComBaz | CPCUG Internet Cafe, part 1

CPCUG Internet Cafe at the Fair

At left, Capital PC User Group officer Nan Blissett gets ready for an onslaught of visitors to CPCUG's Internet Cafe at this summer's Montgomery County Agricultural Fair from August 10 to 18, 2007.

CPCUG volunteer boothstaffers, including Nan, greeted Internet cafe visitors and answered questions about the Internet, computers, technological change, CPCUG, and much, much more. Other CPCUG boothstaffers included Mark Mabee, Karen and Dennis Courtney, Herb Fredricksen, Mark Leymaster, Rich Schinnell, Irene and Paul Shapiro, John Sherman, Jim Short, and William Spillane.

At the right of the photo you can just see the edge of the green screen set up by members of the CPCUG Digital Video SIG. Volunteers from that group demonstrated to visitors some of the wonders of video cameras and aspects of video production and editing on PCs.

The Internet Cafe was a welcome refuge for Fair visitors, allowing them to catch a break from the August heat and get on the Internet in air conditioned comfort.

CPCUG sold 25 Entertainment 2008 discount coupon books at the Fair as part of our fundraising effort in support of CPCUG's community service projects, which include the award of prizes for students exhibiting amazing projects in computer science and related fields at science fairs throughout Washington, DC, and surrounding areas.

Dennis Courtney Thanks Volunteers

On a recent Sunday afternoon, Dennis and Karen Courtney hosted a party around their backyard pool to say "Thank you" to many long-time CPCUG volunteers. In the view at left Janet and Jim Lathan check out the pool's new waterfall and landscaping. Other attendees, who enjoyed good conversation and grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, included Nan Blissett and Mark Mabee, Barbara Conn, Liz and Merrill Hessel, Joan Entmacher and Mark Leymaster, Jackie and John Sherman, and Betty and Andy Thompson.
