Save Money and Support CPCUG!
by Gabe Goldberg

Entertainment discount coupon books for 2008 are here. It's time for CPCUG members and volunteers to help CPCUG raise much-needed funds by selling books to friends, neighbors, and colleagues—and buying books for themselves.

These books offer hundreds of discount opportunities on dining (usually two-for-one deals, or buy one and get one free), travel (airline, hotel, and car rental), shopping, sporting events, theater, movies, dry cleaning, auto repair, and much more. These aren't the kind of "discount" that requires spending extra money, buying things you wouldn't have bought, to "save" money. These are real-life discounts available on routine everyday purchases.

The books are great, I've saved hundreds of dollars each year for many years. These are real discounts on everyday purchases, not requiring special, additional, or oddball expenditures.

As always, CPCUG earns a percentage of our book sale revenues—and the more we sell, the higher the percentage earned.

Selling books isn't hard, they nearly sell themselves. We sell two local editions: DC/VA and DC/MD, both $25/copy.

Orders for out-of-town books (covering most major cities in North America) can be placed online with CPCUG receiving credit for such sales. The key to making sales is offering books early—which we can do since we'll be among the first groups in the area to have books. Don't wait until people have already bought books to try to sell them.

Here's What To Do

Get ready to buy books for yourself, your family, colleagues, and neighbors, and as gifts. Books will be available at many CPCUG meetings from early August through December 31. Let me know by e-mail if you'd like to sell or buy books so we can work out details.

It's especially important to let me know that you'd like to help sell books so I can order enough books for everyone.

Encourage people you know in other cities to buy books through CPCUG. It's simple, it takes just a few online steps, and it earns money for CPCUG.

The good news is that it's easier than before to sell books online, and for people to buy books online, with CPCUG getting credit for the books.

How To Get Those You Know To Buy Books Online

Remember, these books are dynamite money savers. One person already saved more than $200 on one hotel stay using the book.

Without Using an Online Sales Tool

To get others to buy books online, send e-mail to potential buyers you know all over the country. Write your own message, explain how valuable the books are and that their purchase will save them money and benefit the Capital PC User Group's community service projects.

Include the instructions for buying online, given previously in the section "How To Buy Books Online."

Using an Online Sales Tool

There's even an online sales tool that enables you to send personalized e-mail messages, register multiple sellers, track sales, and view order details.

To use the tool, visit

http://fundraising.entertainment.com

and click on Seller Section.

Enter your e-mail address and click Go.

Enter CPCUG's Group ID Number:

534389

Check the circle next to Capital PC User Group and click Next.

Admit that you're over 18 and click Next.

Then register—registration is short and simple, just requiring you to enter first/last names, select and confirm password, and select secret question and enter answer.

Click Next.

You'll see a screen allowing you to automatically send e-mails with full information on buying books online. Be sure to enter personalized text in the "Your message here" box so people you e-mail will know—

  1. Your note isn't spam
  2. Why they should buy books: To save money and to help CPCUG
